Roberto Reveles has humble beginnings and the biggest heart you can find. He is indeed a humanitarian who has many awards to his credit for his political and humanitarian contributions. I know there are many Robertos in Arizona, why they are late coming out of the shadows is saddening to me. We must treat people who want to work here with respect and if Napolitano and Obama, Pierce, Arpaio, and Brewer really wanted to change the the negative impact Arizona is having thoughout the United States, they simply could demand a shorter waiting period for those people who are willing to risk their lives to work here. It is, in fact, it is a very simple solution so why don't these politicos support this change in immigration laws? I often wonder if the hate that drives them is all they stand for and we, the people of Arizona must continue to suffer the consequences until we register enough people who can represent a true democracy.

You are very brave for sharing your story and truly inspiring. You serve as the perfect example that most immigrants are not criminals but individuals seeking an opportunity to prosper. My only hope is that my country's leaders take immediate action to pass the DREAM ACT. It would be a great loss to this country to continue to lose talented youth as yourself. Keep your dreams alive!

Thank you for sharing your story.

@Lisa Chang, Thank you for reading the story. It just goes to show how everybody has difficult stuff in their lives, and that it's important to be strong and keep striving.

@Jenny, I checked with Lida, and she says she doesn't know of any municipal actions to protect local cab drivers. But I think she may be planning to submit something.

What a horrific thing to go through. Mandy, you did a great job with Lida's story. Hopefully Hooshang's life will touch others through his death.

@Sue, thanks for your comment. I hadn't seen that video before, so thanks for providing the link. The video really gives a thorough history of Humane Borders. What is interesting are the efforts to warn people in Mexico about the dangers of crossing the desert. Your video also highlights the religious passion that people bring to their volunteerism, which is a huge part of the story.

@Jenny, as far as I know, there hasn't been any municipal action taken, but I will contact Lida to confirm. Lida did mention supporting legislation for bullet-proof partitions in taxicabs. There is an Oct. 16 article (http://bit.ly/dvV3lm) in the Houston Chronicle that discusses the risk cab drivers face: "Taxi drivers are at least 20 times more likely to be killed on the job than other workers, according to a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration bulletin released in April." The Yellow Cab Company in Houston, Tex. has in-car cameras. Thanks for your valuable comment and question.
