Refilling water jugs in the Arizona desert
During the past year, more than 250 bodies of people trying to cross the U.S./Mexico border have been discovered in the Arizona desert. That’s a record. Increased numbers of Border Patrol agents, a fence and better technology are forcing migrants to choose riskier routes when they cross the desert, according to a recent NPR story.
Check out the following video, which documents my travels with Humane Borders, a group that sends weekly volunteers to the Sonoran Desert to refill water jugs. Their mission is to prevent deaths in the desert. You can also see photos of the trip.

Mandy, I found your video of the water station maintenance trip in August to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Great work! I don't know if anyone at Humane Borders gave you a copy of the video, "Humane Borders First 10 Years." @Sue, thanks for your comment. I hadn't seen that video before, so thanks for providing the link. The video really gives a thorough history of Humane Borders. What is interesting are the efforts to warn people in Mexico about the dangers of crossing the desert. Your video also highlights the religious passion that people bring to their volunteerism, which is a huge part of the story.
